Elmi Ali

Elmi is a writer, director, facilitator and translator based in the North-West. He writes poetry, short fiction and for the stage.

His poetry has been received in venues across the country from the Power House Library in Mosside to The British Library in London. His writing is published in Scarf Magazine – of which he is an associate editor – Sable 15 and Critical Muslim 13 respectively. Elmi is a member of Inna Voice – a Manchester based spoken word collective – and is resident artist at Numbi – an artist’s collective in the East End of London. Elmi is also a member of Inscribe – Peepal Tree Press’s writer development programme. He facilitates performance poetry and creative writing workshops across the country both individually and in partnership with organisations such as Numbi arts, Arvon foundation, Young Identity and Wordsmith.

Elmi’s latest written and directed work includes Survival, Royal Exchange Co-lab festival 2017, Water Seeds not Stones, a one-man show, part of Contact Flying Solo Festival 2017 and Said the Seismograph about the Tremor which was scratched as part of HOME theatre’s Push Festival 2018.
