Cuban poet Legna Rodríguez Iglesias irreverently skewers the hypocrisies, clichés and hierarchies of our time. In her collection, A little body are many parts the exceptional skill and formal dexterity that marks her work in Spanish has been expertly brought to life in English by the poet Abigail Parry and translator Serafina Vick.
The second shortlisted book is the hammer and other poems by Brazilian poet Adelaide Ivanova, this unsettling work considers sexualised violence and offers a potent expression of female sexuality. Ivánova’s frequent translator Francisco Vilhena and the poet Rachel Long provided the vibrant translation.
