Our Black History Month bundle features So At One With You, an anthology of modern poetry in Somali and He Tells Tales of Meroe: Poems for the Petrie Museum by Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi from Sudan. So At One With You brings together a number of Somali poets belonging to different generations to showcase the rich poetic traditions that are a key element of Somali culture. He Tells Tales of Meroe: Poems for the Petrie Museum finds Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi looking back in time, inspired by artefacts in London's Petrie Museum to conjure up images from Sudan's long history.

So At One With You is a groundbreaking dual-language anthology celebrating ten years of Somali Week Festival and the collaboration between the Poetry Translation Centre and Kayd Somali Arts and Culture. The anthology has been expertly edited by the esteemed UK poet W.N. Herbert and the Somali translator and scholar Said Jama Hussein, who have provided a unique overview of modern poetry in Somali. The selection brings together eighteen key poets of the post-colonial era, featuring both legends and newcomers.

He Tells Tales of Meroe: Poems for the Petrie Museum came about when Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi was the poet in residence at the Petrie Museum. He was inspired by ancient Sudanese artefacts in the collection, the poet has produced a series of poems that both illuminate early Sudanese kingdoms (often eclipsed by ancient Egypt) and his own experiences. This dual-language collection presents eight new poems in both Arabic and English which are accompanied by stunning photographs, taken by Crispin Hughes, of the objects that inspired the poems.
