Jamila Medina Ríos

Jamila Medina Ríos is a Cuban poet, essayist, short story writer and editor. She was born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1981. A graduate in Applied Linguistics, Jamila is currently the poetry editor at one of Cuba’s largest publishing houses, Ediciones Uniones. Jamila’s award-winning poetry has been published in Cuba, Mexico, Spain and Puerto Rico and she is considered one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Cuban poetry. Her poetry collections include Huecos de araña (winner of the Premio David in 2008), Primaveras Cortadas (Mexico City, 2011), Del corazón de la col y otras mentiras (Havana, 2013), Anémona (Santa Clara, Cuba, 2013; Madrid, 2016) and her work features in the anthologies Traffic Jam (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2015), Para empinar un papalote (San José, 2015) and JamSession (Querétaro, Mexico, 2017).
