Part of: Legna Rodríguez Iglesias Tour A little body are many parts - Off the Shelf - Sheffield

Off the Shelf
Sheffield

Legna Rodríguez Iglesias' UK tour brings her to Sheffield for the Off the Shelf festival. She will be joined by her translating double team, the award-winning poet Abigail Parry and the writer and translator Serafina Vick for a bi-lingual poetry reading celebrating the launch of Rodríguez Iglesias' first UK publication.

Co-published by Bloodaxe Books and the Poetry Translation Centre ‘A little body are many parts’ brings together poems from 8 of Rodríguez Iglesias’ collections and includes poems with great titles like ‘Grandpa Brecht’, ‘The importance of tolerance and its development’ and, best of all, ‘I’m making friends with all the police in the city so I can rob a bank with my water pistol.’

Having her translators on hand offers the opportunity to have a discussion about the translation process. The poet Abigail Parry who speaks Spanish will talk about working with the bridge-translator Serefina Vick, who, unlike Legna herself, is currently living in Cuba.

Popping in on Off the Shelf will give a Legna a chance to intersect with the wide breadth of the UK literature scene, from a live podcast recording from Zadie Smith to performances from Sheffield’s own sanarcho-nihilist, political theatre makers, Doppelgangster. The festival has been running Since 1991, its programme is the love child of University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University who join forces each year to curate the line-up.
